The Adventures of Bingo Jackson

A personal project that started out as nothing more than a technical exploration of the mediums used, this character would come to embody an alter ego of mine before it was even completed.

The piece initially started out as a single ballpoint contour line drawing in the form of a smiling face. I proceeded to work on the individual sections created by the overlapping line work, focusing on pattern & each pocket of paper by itself. I still built up layers of flared ballpoint pen around the mouth, eyes & ears though, creating some hyper-realism to contradict the patterns that were developing. It wasn’t until I started dropping in the swatches of Sharpie marker, painting on the silver leaf Afro that I realized, I'd inadvertently created my “bands” titular character, Bingo Jackson. This piece has been sold, it'll be made available as a poster soon though.
